The President of the "Greece 2021" Committee, Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, spoke at the annual conference of the National Hellenic Students Association of North America, an active institution representing a dynamic part of the Greek Diaspora and our society. The young men and women, students and young professionals, who unfold their potential and talent in the United States of America and Canada. His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, the Greek Ambassador to the USA, Alexandra Papadopoulou, and the Consul General of Greece in Toronto, Victor Maligoudis, also addressed the conference.
"This year, we celebrate the founding act of our freedom, the Greek Revolution, and also the 200-year journey of modern Greece," mentioned in her speech the President of the Committee. She added: "At the same time, the emblematic milestone of 200 years after the Revolution invites us to envision the future. To look forward and maintain the continuity of this exciting journey."
Particular mention was made regarding the Diaspora's participation in the anniversary events, especially in the United States of America and Canada. "The response we received from Hellenism worldwide to our invitation to co-shape the anniversary projects and events was genuinely heartwarming. We received 319 proposals from 47 countries on five continents," noted Mrs. Angelopoulos and added: "From the USA alone, 29 proposals were submitted. Of these, 5 come from Greek diplomatic authorities and 24 from the Greek Diaspora and private individuals. They cover a wide range of projects, from educational programs and workshops to artistic and cultural events, book fares, concerts, and documentaries. For example, proposals were submitted from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, New York, Illinois, Michigan, Washington DC. Also, 15 proposals were submitted from Canada, 2 from the Greek Embassy, and 13 proposals from 6 different institutions."
Summing up, the President of the Committee stressed that the 200th anniversary of the Revolution is also an opportunity, through the country's promotion abroad, "to highlight its assets and prospects, strengthen its potential, and, to the best of our abilities, establish Greece as a pole of attraction for investment and innovation and secure its passage in the new era."
