"Greece 2021" Committee delegation visits Lesvos

A delegation of the "Greece 2021" Committee visited Lesvos today, the homeland of Sappho, Alkaios, Theophilos, Odysseus Elytis, Stratis Myrivilis, an island of 12 million olive trees and excellent local products, an island of philosophy and culture, a bridge between East and West, an island affected more than any other by the recent migration crisis.

"In Lesvos, as in our 70 visits across the country, I met people who preserve the legacy of the past and try to envision the future. With them, we are inspired, and we continue, we connect, we collaborate, and we move forward into the third century of the modern history of Greece," underlined the President of the "Greece 2021" Committee. Mrs. Angelopoulos spoke of "a milestone year," "a year of beginning, not an end to the 200-year-struggle" and added: "We do not stop here, we are prepared for the next 200 years"!

Referring to the work of the Committee, she pointed out that "we tackled the problem of the pandemic with seriousness and respect" and focused on the steps taken to address it: the donation of 18 portable ICU beds, the financing of the Greek medicine against the coronavirus, as well as the contribution of all proceeds from the Committee's Numismatic Programme, as of August 23rd until the end of the year, towards reinforcing the fire-stricken areas.
