Gianna Angelopoulos: "Pursuing, challenging, thirsting for knowledge are the characteristics of our people that made this land unique"

"Knowledge. Science. Arts. Progress. Justice. Freedom. Culture. Greek Thought. Greek Spirit. Words that are intertwined with this place: The University of Athens." The President of the "Greece 2021" Committee, Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, opened her speech with these words at the official collaboration outcome report of the Committee and the University of Athens.

“It is no coincidence that one of the first initiatives of the New Greek State was the establishment of the "Othonian University," Mrs. Angelopoulos pointed out and added: "Since then, the University of Athens has been illuminating Greece. Dozens of brilliant people whose names adorn the pages of our history have served it. In return, the university provided education for many generations of Greeks and contributed decisively towards Greece's contemporary identity."

"The existing constructive collaboration is a stepping stone to the future relationship of the two organizations,” the Rector of the University of Athens, Meletios-Athanasios Dimopoulos, stressed and thanked the President of the "Greece 2021" Committee for the joint projects and their funding in the context of the anniversary year. "It is a collaboration that brings forward the significance and the role of public higher education, especially of our university, in our country's development and progress," stressed Mr. Dimopoulos.

At the event, which took place in the Great Hall of the University of Athens, Mr. Dimopoulos awarded Mrs. Angelopoulos an honorary plaque.
